Hewlett-Packard, a leading information technology corporation, recently settled patent infringement complaints that it filed with the U.S. International Trade Commission against inkjet cartridge vendors, according to IDG News.
HP filed the complaint in September 2009 with the ITC alleging that the companies InkPlusToner and CompTree Ink were importing and selling inkjet supplies in the U.S. that infringed on patents held by the computer company. The companies reached settlement agreements to pay damages and will stop selling the cartridges.
HP representatives say the company is happy with the settlements although there are eight more companies that it alleges to have violated its patents.
“HP is pleased with the outcome on these matters and remains committed to vigorously pursuing legal enforcement against practices that do not respect HP’s IP rights,” says Stephen Nigro, senior vice president at HP’s imaging and printing wing.
The violated patents related to cartridge design, ink level and delivery methods, according to IDG. The lawsuits come after several others filed with companies MicroJet, Mipo Technology and Mipo America, among others.
HP has also recently been in the news for angering its Chinese customers over faulty laptops. According to Xinhua, HP apologized to its Chinese customers and extended the warranty period for laptops with faulty Nvidia chipsets.
